About Us

In 1915, Albert G. Maas established the company that, after almost a century, still bears his name. He built a thriving business from a modest beginning by selling cleaning supplies from a horse-drawn cart on the streets of Indianapolis. Mr. Maas was also a pharmacist. He developed and manufactured many of the cleansers and fluids his company sold.

When Mr. Maas retired in the 1940's, he put his business in the hands of Bud Zigler, the son of the company's longtime sales representative and only employee. Mr. Zigler ran the business until his death in 1962. Soon after, a partnership including John B. Lytle, grandfather of the current owner, purchased the business. The partnership incorporated the company and merged it with another firm, Indiana Chemical. The newly formed organization kept and maintained the Maas trade name along with its reputation and high quality products.

On January 1, 1983, A.G. Maas Company became a woman-owned business when Linda Lytle Mohlenhoff, mother of the current owner and daughter of John B. Lytle, purchased the business from the partnership and took over the operation. Linda received certifications from the City of Indianapolis in 1984 and from the State of Indiana in 1990 as a Woman Business Enterprise. These certifications are still maintained today under current ownership.

The current owner, Laura Mohlenhoff, believes as her mother and grandfather did, that honest and personal customer service sets A.G. Maas Company apart from the competition.
